Refuges
We manage 14 refuges across London providing safe accommodation and ongoing support for women and children fleeing domestic violence in the capital.
Each refuge is staffed by experienced specialist workers who provide intensive support for women and children throughout their stay and work with them to address their emotional and practical needs. Support is provided with the following:
- Applying for benefits
- Housing applications
- Accessing counselling
- Legal options
- Registering with a GP and local services including health and education
- Re-entering education or employment
Specialist Family and Children’s workers work with families in the refuge to rebuild relationships often damaged by violence – one to one assessments and a programme of group activities nurture a child’s educational and emotional development and reduce the impact of witnessing violence.
Moving to a refuge can be a difficult transition – our Refuges Team work to support women and their children upon their arrival, throughout their stay and around resettlement into safe, permanent accommodation. Our refuge services include the only Specialist Irish Traveller Refuge in the UK providing support for Irish Traveller women and children fleeing domestic violence.
Refuge places are available for women fleeing violence who have no recourse to public funds and our Problematic Substance Use Worker can provide additional help to women with regards to alcohol and drug use who may need to reduce their dependency to access services.
Our Refuge Services can be accessed across London.
