‘In my case I always thought that I could fix it if I tried hard enough. It took me 17 years to realise that it wasn’t for me. As for Solace Women’s Aid, they were my lifeline once I asked for help. I held on with both hands, and they have brought me through this time in my life that I didn’t think I’d survive. SWA have done so much to help me. It wasn’t easy. At times I thought I should have just taken it and tried to fix it again, but with the help of my keyworker and other wonderful women I am now at a stage in my life when I can look in the mirror and recognise myself and like who I am.”

What your money buys

£5 could buy a toy for a child who has had to leave everything behind.

£20 could provide essential toiletries, dried food etc., in an emergency pack for a family who have fled domestic violence without their possessions.

£50 could provide food, nappies and essential items for a woman and a child in a refuge with no recourse to public funds.

£100 could provide an assessment and five counselling sessions for a woman who has been traumatised by her experiences of violence and abuse.

Did you know that if you chose to treat your donations to Solace Women’s Aid as a ‘Gift Aid Donation’ we can claim from the Inland Revenue the basic tax you have paid when earning the money as well? This means that for every £1 you give, we can claim an extra 25p. That really can make a difference!
