An employment Tribunal has decided that four counsellors engaged within our counselling service could be classified as workers and not self-employed counsellors.
Our self-employed counselling service is a model used by many counselling and support organisations. The area of law, which is the status of self-employed individuals, is one that is currently in flux which is leading to rapid changes in how self-employed people are viewed.
However, prior to the judgment, we had already begun to consider how we engage those who are not Solace employees, including our counsellors. The decision will not change our review but will aid how we engage with counsellors in the future.
