London Challenge Poverty Week

Solace are proud once again to be part of London Challenge Poverty Week. Levels of poverty in our communities are heartbreaking:

·  4 out of 10 Londoners do not meet what is deemed to be an acceptable standard of living. 

· Around 9 in 10 (89%) adults in Great Britain continue to report that their cost of living has increased, equal to around 46 million people. (ONS)

· The Resolution Foundation estimated in early September 2022 that absolute poverty will increase by over 3 million people between 2021/21 and 2022/23. (The House of Commons Library)  

· According to the Childhood Trust, a third of the parents questioned in a survey said their under-18s had raised concerns about the cost-of-living crisis.    

· The total number of people reportedly made homeless or threatened with homelessness as a result of domestic abuse in 2021-2022 was 37,340. (Priority Need Report) 

· 53% of single-parents living in poverty after housing costs (trust for London)  

· 39% of those in non-white families living in poverty after housing costs (trust for London)

· 27% of Londoner’s are living in poverty after housing costs (trust for London)   

We have more than 100 children living in our refuges across London and with the support of a grant from 4in10 London’s Child Poverty Network, we were able to take a number of families from our refuges on a very special day out in London to visit the Sea Life London Aquarium.
