Funded by London Councils, Ascent is a partnership project that is part of the London Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) Consortium, delivering a range of services to support women affected by domestic and/or sexual violence.  Solace is lead partner, working with 14 organisations, on the Ascent Advice & Counselling partnership. This pan-London collaboration provides specialist counselling and advice services to women and girls affected by domestic/ sexual violence. Services include 1 to 1 counselling; 1-1 advice; group work, legal advice and training and No Recourse to Public Funds assistance

Ascent Advice and Counselling 

Ascent Advice and Counselling (A&C), funded by London Councils is a partnership led by Solace along with 13 specialist VAWG partners delivering services to women across London. The services provided under this project include 1-1 counselling; bespoke group work, specialist advice, No Recourse Fund providing living expenses for those who are No Recourse to Public Funds; a London Family Law Line, Legal guides and training. This project is run by specialist organisations, led by and for women, many of whom are BME specialists. The Partnership operates a Hub and Spoke model with 2 advice hubs (East and West), a London Family Law Advice Line and advice spokes across all of London. Advice is provided by phone via the advice lines and via face to face casework for up to 12 weeks.

Ascent Advice Plus, funded by MOPAC, enhances the Ascent Advice offer available across London by adding extra capacity to the advice service by:

  • Increased capacity on the advice hubs (East and West), enabling timely access to initial advice and support;
  • Additional advice caseworker posts to ensure each specialist partner has increased capacity to respond flexibly to the diverse needs of victims/survivors and to work with women for up to 26 weeks;
  • Additional part-time legal advisor to expand Rights of Women London Family Law advice line’s capacity to provide advice around legal options;
  • Inclusion of additional consultancy expertise to assist in meeting a broader range of diverse needs, including LBT, deaf and disabled women and women with learning disabilities.
  • Extension of reach through the provision of accessibility funds for each partner for venue costs and interpreting across all London boroughs.

The Hear2Change project works with young people in schools and community with the aim of changing attitudes to Violence Against Women and Girls. The project provides support to young people through workshops, assemblies and one-to-one advocacy work for those who have experienced or are at risk of, violence and abuse.

Hear2Change is is 12 weeks group programme looking at root causes and strains of VAWG; young people participating can gain AQA Level 1 and Level 2 Awards. We provide individual advocacy support to young people impacted by any type of abuse, teachers training to support their understanding of trauma and how to spot the signs of abuse, as well as supporting parents and assemblies through peer to peer campaigning. 

Migrant Support provides support to people affected by displacement and exploitation. They provide accommodation and financial support to those seeking asylum, support with resettlement of refugees, and advice and support around the EU Settlement Scheme.

Praxis provides expert support to migrants and refugees in the UK. They have an East London base and provide immigration advice and support with housing, homelessness, benefits, health, and welfare.
Praxis run a housing project where they provide safe accommodation to families with no access to normal welfare support system.
They run peer-led support groups to build confidence, develop skills and forge friendships.

Rights of Women run free legal advice lines for women and provide legal information on their website. All of their advisors are women solicitors or barristers with expertise in the relevant areas of law.
They provide helplines around the following areas of law: Family Law, Criminal Law, Immigration and asylum law, and they run the Sexual Harassment at Work Advice Line. Please note legal advice is only available over the phone, not by email or post.

Advocacy 

Barnet SASS provides practical and emotional support to anyone aged 16+ who resides in the Borough of Barnet and experiencing domestic abuse, honour based violence and forced marriage. 

  • Consent based service the only exception is if the client was referred to service through the MARAC. Barnet SASS is a core Domestic Violence service in the Borough; we are also offering support to the survivors who have been referred to MARAC.
  • Independent Domestic Violence Advisors (IDVAs) are co-located at different partner agency services; Colindale police station (3day per week), MH Service (4 days per week)and Adult/Children’s MASH (4 days per week).  Everyone is working from home.
  • We are working with all level of risk usually up to 3 months.
  • We are working with all genders.
  • We are also delivering the ARISE Course twice per year.
  • We are also one of the lead DV agency for the One-Stop Shop which is an advice surgery provided by some agencies including,  housing, anti-social behaviour officer from the Barnet Homes, family solicitors, and cybercare,

IRIS

IRIS Advocate is only accepting IRIS trained GPs, providing longer-term support. We are only working with standard to medium cases. 

We only accept referrals from Greenfield Medical Practice, Vale Drive Medical, The Old Courthouse, Langstone Way, Heathfielde Medical Centre, Wentworth Medical, Lichfield Grove, St Andrews Medical, St Georges Medical Practice, Millway Medical, Jai, Watling, Penhurst, Wakeman, East Barnet Health Care, Woodland Medical, Parkview Medical, Dr Azim and Partners, Supreme Medical Centre, Everglade Medical Centre, The Speedwell Practice, Temple Fortune, Oakleigh Road Health Centre, Freirn Barnet Medical Centre, Longrove Surgery, Village Surgery, Lane End Medical Centre, Brunswick Park, Hendon Way.

Advocacy 

At Bexley we offer 1:1 advocacy, support and safety planning for medium to high risk service users. We support regardless of sexuality or gender and can take referrals internally, externally and in person. 

The Bexley One Stop Shop

The Bexley One Stop Shop, offering a range of advice all under one roof to help victims of domestic abuse will be open from November 2021. The service will be open every Wednesday from the 3rd November from 12:30 pm to 3 pm at Central Library Bexleyheath, Townley Road, DA6 7HJ and will include legal representation, domestic abuse specialist support, plus other agencies, all offering advice on issues concerning domestic abuse. No appointment is required, all advice is free to anyone visiting the One Stop Shop.

Groups

We currently run  Arise and ABC Programmes for women and also during COVID-19 have been running meditation virtually. We also held coffee mornings prior to the pandemic and hope to continue these in the future.

BAMER Worker 

We are currently working in partnership with IKWRO to provide support to Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) women 18+ experiencing Domestic Abuse (DA) and living in Bexley.

This worker is able to support service users that are medium and high risk and referrals are accepted through our duty line/inbox and then referred onto IKWRO with Service User consent.

Specialist Advocate

We have also secured funding for a year to provide a Specialist advocate, this worker will be providing support to women who have experienced violence against women and girls (VAWG) and are also experiencing multiple disadvantage including, but not limited to, mental health issues, substance use, offending behaviour, homelessness or engaging in prostitution.

Advocacy 

The advocacy service accepts referrals from professionals, MARAC and we also encourage self-referrals to our duty helpline.

ISVA

ISVAs are Independent Sexual Violence Advocates who are specialist advocates with specific knowledge around the Criminal Justice system (CJS) as it relates to rape and other sexual offences.

IRIS 

IRIS Advocate Educators work directly with GP surgeries providing training and a consultation service. The aim of the service is to improve safety through the minimisation of the risks. The advocate educators provide emotional and practical support to referrals which include, completing risk assessments, safety plans, signposting, safeguarding referrals where appropriate and additional support where required.

To be eligible for the service you must identify as female and be registered with an IRIS trained GP surgery within the London Borough of Enfield.

IDVA (Housing Support) 

We have four IDVA’s, with one based at the ASB team in Enfield Council, who works primarily with permanent council tenants. IDVA’s accept cases that score 10 and above on the dash risk assessment. Cases that have been assessed as medium risk will be referred to our floating support worker where possible or to a specialised domestic abuse service in the community with the survivor’s consent.

Change in Challenge 

The Change and Challenge team are part of Enfield Councils Early Help Team. We work with families to find solutions to concerns they are having and focus on preventing them from becoming more difficult to manage.

The family must meet at least 2 of the following criteria’s: 

  • child/children are regularly missing or excluded from school 
  • child/children have potential gang affiliation 
  • Support for families suffering domestic violence 
  • Young people who are receiving support from Enfield Council’s Youth Offending Unit 
  • Adult family members are out of work and need help finding a job 
  • Support for family members with a range of health needs 

We aim to improve children’s behaviour and school achievement, support adult members of the family in take steps towards getting a job, training opportunity or accredited qualification. They may also benefit from improvements to their health and family relationships.

Children's Centre 

The Solace Children’s Centre support service provides free and confidential practical and emotional support and advocacy for families affected by Domestic and Sexual Abuse/Violence who have at least one child under the age of 5 years; including those who are receiving support and intervention from Enfield Children’s Social Care. The aim of the service is to support and empower families to take the steps needed to deal with any immediate risks and to be able to make safe choices in the future.

Professionals/agencies need to submit all referrals for Early Help through the Children’s Portal where it will be triaged and allocated to the service best placed to provide the support required: www.enfield.gov.uk/childrensportal

Floating Support 

Enfield Floating Support Service provides free and confidential advice, support and advocacy to women and girls over the age of 16 affected by domestic and sexual violence. We offer short to medium term support with a range of needs such as legal options, housing, benefits, financial issues, and emotional support.
