It’s Christmas Eve. Outside, the streets sparkle. Families gather. Laughter fills the air.
But inside her home, fear rules. She walks on eggshells, measuring every word, hoping tonight isn’t worse than last night.
In the year ending March 2024, an estimated 1.6 million women in England and Wales experienced domestic abuse. Police recorded over 1.35 million domestic abuse-related incidents and crimes during the same period — many involving households with children. (ONS) Financial pressure, stress, and isolation can intensify already volatile situations behind closed doors.
This Christmas, Solace is urgently asking people to “Give the Gift of Safety”— to help women and children escape abuse, find safety, and begin to rebuild their lives.

Your gift can save lives:
- £20 answers a life-saving call to Solace’s crisis helpline
- £35 provides essentials for a mother arriving at refuge with nothing
- £60 funds a counselling session to help a survivor begin to heal
- £100 provides a safe night of emergency accommodation
- £500 gives a woman and her children a week’s refuge and safety
During Big Give Week (2–9 Dec), all donations are doubled, making twice the impact.
