“Attending this training has really caused me to re-evaluate domestic violence as an issue that needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency, domestic abuse is indiscriminate and causes irreparable damage to all survivors.”
In early March I took part in the Solace Champions Training. My aim was to learn more about domestic abuse. The course was a real eye opener, whilst I was aware that domestic violence was a significant issue, I was not aware that domestic violence should in fact be more accurately described as a pandemic.
The course gave me real insight into how domestic abuse affects all parts of society, including survivors, children and the public purse. Attending this training has really caused me to re-evaluate domestic violence as an issue that needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency, domestic abuse is indiscriminate and causes irreparable damage to all survivors.
The instructor Olivia was fantastic in providing a forum that was conducive to lively and stimulating debate, which allowed me to learn an awful lot from both herself and the other participants. The course has made me understand just how many people are affected or know someone affected by domestic abuse.
Going forward, the course has equipped me in my profession to feel confident in working alongside survivors, as well as providing them with the emotional support and professional help that they need.
I cannot recommend this course enough! Both in terms of learning about a topic that urgently requires more attention and resources, but also on a professional level where I have gained skills that will assist me in providing a service I would want a family member to receive.
