Zofia’s Story
When Zofia* made the decision to flee abuse, she did so to protect herself and her baby son, leaving behind everything she owned.
With the support of Solace, she was helped to escape safely and move into temporary accommodation while longer-term housing was arranged.
Although she felt relief at being safe, the months in temporary accommodation were uncertain and stressful. As a single mother on a low income, Zofia worried constantly about how she would rebuild her life.
When Solace supported Zofia to secure a safe, long-term tenancy, it was a turning point. Yet moving into an empty flat brought new anxiety. Having fled quickly, she had no furniture, no bed for herself, and nothing for her baby. She could not afford the essentials needed to start again.
The team at Solace ensured she had practical support in place for move-in day, providing a bed, cot, kettle and microwave. In the days that followed, they helped her gather everything she needed to make the flat feel like home.
With Solace’s housing and practical support, Zofia has been empowered to create a safe, stable new beginning for herself and her son.
“Solace stepped in to help exactly when I needed them. Their support has empowered me to create the best start for me and my son in our new home.”
*Zofia‘s name has been changed to protect her identity.
