In May 2020, Solace set up the Covid-19 Crisis Project to offer safe crisis accommodation with specialist support to women and children fleeing domestic abuse and other forms of violence against women and girls (VAWG), across London during the Covid-19 pandemic. The project was supported by Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) and the Julia and Hans Rausing Trust.
The project was coordinated by Solace Women’s Aid with support for women with no recourse to public funds provided by partners Southall Black Sisters. The project provided women with crisis accommodation for three months, therapeutic support, support from specialist refuge workers and vital resettlement support provided to women to move onto appropriate accommodation at the end of the crisis period.
The project ran until September 2021 and supported 207 women including 75 women who had no recourse to public funds.
