How to opt out of the emergency alert test

The national system for sending emergency alerts to mobile phones in the UK will be tested again on 7 September at 15:00 BST, the government has said. 

During the test, compatible phones will vibrate and make a siren sound for ten seconds while displaying a message. The alerts are intended for situations in which there is an imminent danger to life, such as extreme weather events or during a terror attack. 

These alerts may put domestic abuse survivors at risk, if they are concealing devices from perpetrators. Survivors may hide devices because they use them to seek and receive support, or to seek employment to increase their financial independence.
