Solace Christmas Campaign


Solace, the leading specialist domestic abuse provider in London, are launching their winter campaign video to raise essential funds for their lifesaving service and ask people to question their response when they hear domestic abuse.    

Jane Jutsum, Director says ‘Christmas is considered a time for family and celebration but for too many women and children it can be a time of fear and isolation. The focus of this campaign is on how too often we turn a blind eye to the violence that is around us. It’s easy to hope that someone else will do something, but to make a real change, to save lives and stop this epidemic of violence against women and girls (VAWG), we all need to do something.’  

Solace support more than 20,000 women and girls each year, as well as a small but increasing number of men. During the pandemic Solace have seen an unprecedented rise in demand for their services. Calls to their London free advice line have more than doubled.    

The film shows a couple enjoying their Christmas traditions whilst ignoring the abuse happening next door.  Karen Bryson, (Shameless, Safe, Happy Valley) has provided her support for the third year in a row, she says; “I’m proud to support Solace. Their work is crucial to supporting women and children across London, enabling them to build safe and strong lives.’   

The film is a Roll Nine Production by Kirsty Malcolm and Mike Doxford who say “One in three women will experience domestic abuse in her lifetime and having witnessed this first-hand, it’s an issue we feel incredibly strongly about. Making this film has been a privilege and we hope it will encourage people to do something this Christmas and support Solace’s life-saving and life-changing services.   

We are calling on all Londoners to come together to support survivors of domestic abuse and do something when they are worried about their neighbour or make a donation to our life-saving services to ensure that every woman can get the support she needs.   

Jutsum adds, ‘Abuse often continues for years before women feel able to leave, and for some women there is no escape. Recent events tragically mean that violence against women and girls is very much at the forefront of people’s minds, but this is a societal problem and we hope this campaign amplifies our call for change in how victim/survivors are treated and helps ensure that together we can create a safer world for everyone’.

Solace is a leading specialist VAWG charity in the UK, with over 45 years’ experience working with survivors of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). We deliver eight core multi-disciplinary empowering services that support women and children from the moment of crisis to recovery and independence.
