Solace responds to allegations of rape during Married at First Sight UK filming

Two women have told the BBC they were raped during the filming of one of Channel 4’s biggest shows, Married at First Sight UK, while a third has described an allegation of a non-consensual sex act.

Nahar Choudhury, chief executive of Solace, said: “These horrifying allegations point to the widespread apathy around women’s safety and cavalier attitudes towards sexual violence that permeate our society.

“The premise of the show may be high-stakes relationship-based drama, but the supposed ‘reality’ of reality television should not be carried into the lives of participants: no one should ever be placed at risk of violence and abuse.

“The physical and emotional impact of sexual assault can stay with women for the rest of their lives, impacting their mental health and future relationships. If you or anyone you know has been sexually assaulted, please reach out to Solace for support.”
