Solace responds to Domestic Abuse Commissioner’s children and young people report

29 April 2025

Responding to the Domestic Abuse Commissioner’s report, Victims in their own right Babies, children and young people’s experience of domestic abuse, published this week, chief executive of Solace Nahar Choudhury said: “Children with experience of domestic abuse need evidence-based, trauma-informed support to recover, heal and thrive. That is why we welcome the recommendation for long-term, dedicated community-based funding to support children and young people with the services they need.

“Preventative work is also essential: we agree with the report that children must be educated appropriately on topics such as consent and healthy relationships, which is why Solace called for a gender and VAWG-informed review of the PSHE and RSHE by the Department for Education last year.

“This report is a crucial piece of work, especially in light of the government’s upcoming VAWG strategy publication. We are proud to have contributed to this and look forward to continuing to work with the Commissioner on calling for the support that these children deserve, ensuring that their voices are always heard.”
