Solace responds to reports of migrants’ abuse claims

In response to the BBC News story on immigration advisors encouraging migrants to make false claims of domestic abuseNahar Choudhury, chief executive of Solace, said:

“Any false claims and advisers who enable such practice should be dealt with by authorities. However, from our work with survivors, we know that generally, false allegations are incredibly rare, with the Met Police reporting these in just 0.01% of domestic abuse cases.

“Migrant survivors are some of the most vulnerable people we support and they already face significant barriers to accessing help. Perpetrators often use survivors’ insecure immigration status as a tool for abuse and control, and migrant survivors fear reporting to police and other vital services. The Home Office routes available to survivors of domestic abuse to seek safety remain essential.”
