Katherine Couper

Katherine is a specialist family barrister whose career has been dedicated to protecting the rights and wellbeing of vulnerable children, women, and families. She brings to Solace Women’s Aid both legal expertise and a deep commitment to ensuring safety, justice, and empowerment for survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence.

Katherine’s practice spans the full spectrum of family law, including cases involving domestic abuse, forced marriage, female genital mutilation, international child abduction, cross-border disputes, and complex public law proceedings. This gives her a strong understanding of the challenges faced by survivors navigating complex legal and personal circumstances. Her experience aligns closely with Solace’s mission to provide survivor-centred support that is inclusive, accessible, and transformative. Katherine also brings governance and administrative experience as a previous member of her Chambers’ management committee and various administrative steering groups.

Katherine’s role as a trustee is shaped by her belief in the power of safe housing, holistic support services, and strong advocacy to break the cycle of abuse. She is committed to using her expertise to strengthen Solace’s governance, champion its values, and support the charity in reaching more survivors.
