When Amira* first reached out for support, she had been living on the streets, moving from place to place each night without safety or stability.

Her days were spent focused on survival, finding food, making money, and searching for somewhere to sleep. At night, fear would take over. As a woman sleeping rough, she never felt safe, especially in the dark. She often lay awake, anxious that someone might approach her or wake her. Without access to showers or clean clothes, she began to lose her sense of dignity and self-worth.

Everything changed when Amira reached out to Solace and was offered safe accommodation.

For the first time in months, she could close a door behind her and feel secure. She could cook when she was hungry, shower when she wanted, and sleep peacefully in her own bed. The simple act of locking her door brought comfort and control back into her life.

Now, Amira can invite her son and mother to visit, rebuilding family connections. She has even bought a sewing machine and is exploring courses, beginning to plan for her future with hope.

“Now I feel like I have my place where I am safe. I have a place where I can go to sleep; I’m safe, I have my shower, I can cook my food. Before I was on the street – I wasn’t safe, and I was scared 24 hours a day.”
