When Nicolette* first experienced domestic abuse, she was living with her husband and child under the constant threat of deportation. Her husband weaponised her uncertain spousal visa status to exert total control, falsely claiming she would lose her child if she disobeyed. He was verbally aggressive and routinely withheld money for basic necessities.

After being referred for assistance, Nicolette was assessed by a Solace staff member to determine her urgent support needs. This crucial intervention helped her escape the abusive household, providing her and her child with immediate financial aid and a safe pathway out of isolation.

Nicolette’s situation changed when Solace intervened to secure her future. They liaised directly with immigration lawyers to stabilise her legal status, while simultaneously helping her move into secure temporary accommodation away from her abuser.

Now, Nicolette receives ongoing emotional support as she rebuilds her life. Solace continues to liaise with housing organisations to find a permanent home for her and her child, ensuring they have the long-term security they deserve.

Today, Nicolette is safe, supported, and looking forward to a brighter, independent future with her child.

“Now we are in accommodation, I finally feel safe.”
