An article appeared in the Islington Tribune this morning raising awareness about the rising levels of domestic abuse in the borough, which of course, is the same surge in calls for help which is taking place across London and the whole of the UK.
We welcome the awareness raising by the Islington Tribune and hope that it will enable survivors to be able to get support.
However, it is extremely regrettable that our comments about how seriously Islington Council has responded to the problem, backing this with significant additional funding for the service, were omitted. A decision based not just on recent or COVID-19 related increases in demand but as the right decision for survivors in the borough to whom they are deeply committed to keeping safe.
We are disappointed that our comments were not fully reported as we fully support Islington Council as one of the most progressive in London when it comes to tackling domestic abuse and their continued support is valued both by us and the women we support.
