Solace Newsletter January 2024

Happy New Year & Thank You!

It’s the new year and we know many of you will be looking for new opportunities in 2024, so we thought we’d let you know of some ways you could support us, add to your experiences and help more women and girls.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported our Christmas campaign. Your generosity enabled us to help so many women and children across London during a particularly difficult time. Thank you from us and on behalf of the women and girls we support.

And it’s not too late to donate if you can, your support makes a real difference all year round.

Volunteering opportunities

Do you want to gain hands on experience in a dynamic feminist charity? We are looking for volunteers to fill a range of roles, including:

Young People Peer Mentors who have an interest in developing skills and gaining insight into working in advice, support and advocacy services. Peer Mentors have the unique opportunity to show that positive change and recovery are possible, and use their experience to support others.

A volunteer to assist with our Sanctuary Scheme, which enables survivors of domestic abuse to get access to safe housing.

A reliable and organised volunteer to assist our staff team in our Bexley Refuge, supporting vulnerable women and children who are in crisis or at risk of harm.

If you have some time to spare and would like to play a pivotal role in delivering our services, we have several great opportunities.

As SHE Likes It

We are delighted and proud to be supporting this brilliant new play by Chloe Wade.

A fusion of live theatre and filmed footage, As SHE Likes It exposes the cultural legacy of sexism and exploitation that still haunts the film industry today, peeking behind the sepia cigarette smoke and passionate embraces of Old Hollywood through the eyes of its archetypes.

Following the performance on the 27th of January at Greenwich Theatre, there will be a free post-show panel discussion around the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, with writer Chloe Wade, director Tilly Vosburgh, Olivier Award Winning Playwright & Chloe’s writing mentor, Morgan Lloyd Malcolm, and a representative from Solace.
